there are ways but i would not recommend it. is it worth taking a chance of ruining your vision just to see this thing. dont even try i am serious. also dont buy anything to do this either. take my advice for your sake. bob

get a shade 10 or 11 in a welder’s hood. and you will able to see everything without the risk.

The point here is that when the Sun is totally eclipsed you do not need protection, since there is a 2160 mile rock blocking it (the Moon). During partial phases of a solar eclipse, though, you absolutely must protect your eyes. Mylar is safe, but it must be in perfect condition–no scratches or pin holes in it. 5.0 neutral density filters, generally sold through photographic outlets or astronomical supply houses, will do. Welder’s glasses are also used. Homemade glasses, unless you know what you are doing, can risk your making the acquaintence of a very nice seeing eye dog, while you walk around with a white, red-tipped cane.

You can get a sheet of solar filter film on ebay for like 20 bucks. You would get a sheet large enough to make several pairs of glasses.

Another option would be to just buy a solar filter for a small telescope(4 or 6 inch) and then just cut your lenses from that. That might be cheaper because you can get a small filter for less.
Caution: There are sunglasses listed on there as "Solar Shields". Those are basically just regular sunglasses and should not be used to look at the Sun.
You only have one set of eyes to last you the rest of your life so please be careful!!!
